Guide
How to use
- 1Type your text: a nickname, rank prefix, server name or MOTD line.
- 2Pick two or more colors, or start from a preset. Add up to eight stops for multi-color gradients.
- 3Toggle bold or italic, then copy the output in the format your plugin reads.
Good to know
Which output do I need?
EssentialsX, TAB, DeluxeMenus and most configs read &#RRGGBB. Spigot’s own format is &x&R&R&G&G&B&B. Paper, Velocity and LuckPerms-with-MiniMessage read MiniMessage. Commands want JSON (or SNBT on 1.21.5+).
Mind the length
Every character gets its own color code, so &#RRGGBB output is roughly 9× longer than the text. Nickname plugins often cap the length including codes — MiniMessage’s single <gradient> tag is far shorter.
Questions
Does gradient text work on every Minecraft version?
Hex colors need Java Edition 1.16 or newer. Older clients and Bedrock players see the closest legacy color instead (servers with ViaVersion/Geyser downsample automatically).
Why does my gradient look different in-game?
Usually the plugin doesn't support the hex format you pasted, so it shows raw codes or falls back to one color. Check which format your plugin documents. MiniMessage’s <gradient> uses the same RGB blending as this tool’s RGB mode.
Can I make a rainbow?
Yes: choose the Rainbow preset. In MiniMessage you can also write <rainbow>text</rainbow>, which the Text Formatter previews too.
